UK drives down greenhouse gas emissions by going coal free in it’s electricity supply for 60 days.

This renewable energy success story really did not gather the column inches it deserves, the UK’s electrical power generation has just gone coal free for the longest time since the industrial revolution. Exceeding 60 days for the first time since 1882 and radically reducing carbon emissions in the process.

In part this is due to the lower demands during lockdown, but that’s all the more reason to celebrate this good news story as beacon of hope in a troubled time. The lower overall demand for electricity means our low-carbon sources can supply a far greater proportion than usual driving down greenhouse gas emissions. What an incredible achievement for the UK’s burgeoning renewable energy industry. Both wind and solar power are contributing to make what was merely a vision a few years ago into reality in a short space of time. With stringent targets set to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and increase energy efficiency the UK is increasingly looking to replace fossil fuels and reduce emissions.

30% of UK electricity demand from Solar Power.

Solar power actually smashed its own UK generation record on April 20 this year reaching a peak of 9.68GW, breaking the all-time peak generation record and meeting almost 30% of UK electricity demand.

Precision is one of an increasing number of businesses that take sustainability and renewable energy seriously. We have significantly reduced our carbon footprint by generating our own energy through our 100kw solar power system and are working towards doubling this within the next few months. Our surplus weekend solar energy is even exported back to the grid to fund a UK Tree Planting carbon offsetting scheme. This alongside industry leading recycling and use of EV technology in both our car and forklift fleets enabled us to achieve Carbon Neutral certification. But we are always looking for new ways to reduce emissions, create less waste and recycle more. Sustainability is embedded in our culture and is at the core of our business DNA.
